Our waterfront office is located in downtown Kirkland, Washington. Prior to COVID, we kept our kitchen fully stocked, played ping pong and pool, built an impressive collection of board games, and loved interacting with our troop of quirky office dogs. We are working remotely during COVID but continue to find ways to support one another through online activities, such as small group lunches, themed happy hours, and social Slack channels. We've even had a few masked-up outdoor gatherings for disc golf and apple picking. And yes, those quirky dogs—and now cats!—make occasional virtual appearances.  We anticipate this position will have the flexibility to be mostly remote with infrequent, scheduled, paid trips to the Kirkland office. We hope you'll consider becoming a part of our team at Optimal

We’re looking for a HTML/CSS developer to help us build exciting content and experiences on our education-focused products. You should be comfortable taking mockups and writing the HTML/CSS code that incorporates all of the elements, colors, padding, margins, and more that comprise those designs. In addition, working with preprocessors like SASS, and familiarity with CSS frameworks like Material Design is a plus.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Translate designer mock-ups and wireframes into front-end code

  • Maintain and build out content using widgets in a custom in-house CMS

  • Design and write responsive, performant code (HTML, CSS) that delivers a seamless end-to-end user experience

  • Understanding technical SEO concepts to ensure content meets requirements

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to offer suggestions on designs and implementation concerns

  • Strong communication skills

  • B.S. in Computer Science or relevant experience - upcoming & recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in languages like CSS, SASS, HTML
  • Clear understanding of HTTP web standards
  • Understanding of technical SEO best practices
  • Dynamic, self-driven learner that isn't afraid to get their hands dirty
  • Strong problem solving skills working with designs that may not always easily translate to front-end code

Title: HTML/CSS Developer

Position Type: Full-time

Compensation/Salary: $65,000-$85,000 DOE

Signing Bonus: Yes, amount DOE
